"Alive" is the next song, and that was the first song I wrote on this
Album. And it was at least two years ago because I actually saw the
Little Dictaphone note in my phone the other day, and it said
I think it said "January or February 2013." So, you know, it was at
This point where I said to myself, "Man, like, there's so much dance
Music on the charts," and then on the flip side, "There's so much
Folk music, and I really wanna combine the two worlds." And so I
Wrote this song "Alive," and I guess from me finishing my album to
When I wrote "Alive," along came this Avicii record, which did that
Perfectly. I was like, "Alright, I need to do something else." But
You know, I sort of re-recorded "Alive" and made it less dance and
Made it very organic, actually, and I love it. It's very uplifting
It's, the song's, you know, all the lyrics I wrote basically just
About being in one lane for a while and being busy and being so
Caught up in life that you forget to live it. And, you know
There's, I've got a tattoo that says "Life is what happens to
You while you're busy making other plans." That's so true for
My own life. I get so caught up in, you know, being work-
Orientated and being in the studio for so long, and it all becomes
I guess, a little bit of a task, and you forget to live. You
Forget to take in the simple beauties that are around you
And so, for me, "Alive" is just a reminder to smell the roses
