Lost in My Head

I don't know if this is the new me now

Or if I'm going through a phase

I barely talk to anybody

It's like the silence goes for days

Is this a form of meditation?

I don't get on my knees to pray

Stepping from sunlight into shadow

Lost in my head all day

I spend the morning in my garden

I cut a peony and vine

I trim the basil and nasturtium flower

Is this how water turns to wine?

I take my shoes off in the doorway

I splash cold water on my face

I don't know if I should start forcing this

Maybe it's best to let it play

Most of the time my life is joyful

Sometimes it hurts in the worst way

I don't know if I should go look for it

That thing I dropped along the way

Sometimes I find it in an instant

Sometimes I wait and wait and wait

"Pass through me," I say
