By Galilee's shore, after a weary night
Fisherman Peter met a gaze full of light
He had denied his Master, in fear and deep despair
Three times he had denied Him, a burden hard to bear
But Jesus sat by the fire, with bread and with fish
And asked this only question, that fulfilled his deepest wish
Not about the striving, not about the mighty deed
But straight into the heart, planting a living seed"Peter, My friend, you who know My heart so well
More than all these others, do you love Me, can you tell?"
Three times that question, to mend the wounds so deep"Yes, Lord, You know!" Peter answered and wept
Oh, that question, it echoes even now
It stirs within my spirit, it touches every vow"Do you love me? Do you love me, do you love me?
With my heart bare I say, I know you know I do
Lord, I am nothing without You, On my knees I bow
Let this sinful vessel be filled with You now
He asks it to you, He asks it to me this day
What truly drives your actions, along this earthly way?
Is it for personal glory, a reward you long to claim?
Or is it pure devotion, burning for his holy name?
He doesn't want our striving, if it's born of empty show
He yearns for yielded hearts, where true affections grow
What's birthed in true affection, is pure and ever true
It bears eternal fruit, Lord, when it flows from You"Do you love Me?" He whispers, He whispers once again
Is it love for me that drives you or something else, my beloved friend?
Oh, that question, it echoes even now
It stirs within my spirit, it touches every vow"Do you love me? Do you love me, do you love me?
With my heart bare I say, I know you know I do
Lord, I am nothing without You, On my knees I bow
Let this sinful vessel be filled with You now
Your love, so deep and boundless, becomes our very own
It teaches us to cherish, even seeds that weren't sown
To love the one who hurts us, to bless the one who fights
For it's Your love, dear Master, that fills our darkest nights
Teach us to see with Your eyes, to feel with Your own heart
