The Brightest One

Rubbing my eyes, another day begins

In the countryside, cicadas loudly sing

In my spoon, I see myself reflect

Looking cute - what did you expect?

Step outside and feel the morning sun

Old man next door is planting one by one

Skipping to school, just having fun

Forgot my books, teacher gave me a shout

Test came back - only twenty-five, no doubt

But even then, my friends call me to play

We laugh and run around the schoolyard all day

Aren't I just the brightest light?

I'm the one who shines so right

Can't you see?

I'm always underneath the sun

And it's there for everyone

I feel like I can do it all

I can be the light for all of y'all

Yawned and stopped by the sweet bun store

School bell rings from somewhere I'm not sure

Sky's all orange, stretching far and wide

Today again, I feel that glow inside

The sunset wraps me as I walk back home

Gave some buns to the farmer all alone

Stretched a bit, then stepped back in my zone

Forgot my lunch box, got in a jam

Showed my test - Mom said, "Damn!"

But my puppy wagged his tail so bright

We played a bit, and it felt just right

Aren't I just the brightest light?

I'm the one who shines so right

Can't you see?

I'm always underneath the sun

And it's there for everyone

I feel like I can do it all

I can be the light for all of y'all

Even I get down sometimes, it's true

But when I do, I skip like I always do

No matter the mess, no matter the fall

I'm cute enough - that beats it all
