Hansel and Gretel
Once upon a time in a green wood
Among the trees a little hut stood
A boy and a girl inside it did dwell
Their names were Hansel and Gretel
Hansel liked to play and explore
His sister Gretel liked to read more
"Let's go for a walk", said Hansel one day
Gretel put down her book, oh, okay!
The forest was huge and glittered with frost
Said Gretel, "I hope we don't get lost"
So they'd remember the way they'd come
They left behind a trail of breadcrumbs
Deeper they went into the chilly wood
A bit further than they really should
Hansel wished he'd had something to munch
Neither of them had brought any lunch
"Shall we go back? I'm starving" Hansel said
Me too, said Gretel, nodding her head
They looked for their breadcrumb trail
But birds had eaten it, they gave a wail
Just then, Hansel and Gretel spied ahead
A cottage made out of gingerbread
Its roof was iced and sparkled with sweets
Chocolate buttons and gummy treats
Hansel couldn't believe his eyes
Wow, what a delicious surprise!
They ran to the house, so fast and so quick
Gretel took the door and nibbled at it
Suddenly, there was a crash and a creep
Who's nibbling on my house? Came a shriek
Out came an ugly witch wearing a hat
At her heels, meowed a sad black cat
They stopped eating and trembled too
We didn't know this house belonged to you
The witch, purred
Children? Never mind
Come inside and more sweets you shall find
Hansel and Gretel weren't sure about this
But scrummy sweets, they couldn't resist
The witch shut the door, and fire crackled
"Now, I shall eat you up" she cackled
They had walked right into a trap
The witch would gobble them up in a snap
"I think you'd be so tasty"
The witch said, but Gretel had another plan instead
