Coffee and a Cookie
By Daryl Stevenett
Every Sunday morning, out on Main Street. Sign in the window, chalk on the board
Sun coming up, the coffee is brewing. Somebody laughing by the front door
I'm strumming low so the words don't rush. Just singing soft while the beans get crushed
Coffee and a cookie, that's all you need. A little sugar, and a little caffeine
Thin Mints melting Samoas in your hand. Football in the afternoon, call your bookie
But Sunday morning it's, coffee and a cookie
Girls in green with a folding table. Learning early how dreams get paid for
Tagalongs and Do-si-dos. Smiling brighter than their face can show
You can buy a box, you can buy two. They'll just smile and say "thank you,"
And I know they really mean it too!
It's coffee and a cookie, Sunday morning grace. Caramel, chocolate, with a coconut glaze
Peanut butter, shortbread too. Everybody's got a sweet, sweet tooth
Your barista at Anthem ain't no rookie so enjoy your coffee and a cookie
Nobody's preaching, nobody's late. No one's trying to make the world see straight
I'm Just singing a song, spending my time. for folks at Anthem coffee, standing in line
Some folks listen, some folks go. Some stick around till the last chord slows
Kids count boxes, dreams add up. I count my blessings in my old tip cup
Heaven's everywhere you can see. It's right here smiling, back at me
Yeah coffee and a cookie, that's what's up. A little bit of Heaven, in a paper cup
Thin Mints, Samoas, you can put em in the freezer They can last for days...lookie, lookie
It's just coffee and a cookie
So if you're passing through with nowhere to be. Grab a chair,
Sit down have a cup of Joe with me
We're not in church were all just playing hookie
With you guessed it...
Coffee and a cookie
Coffee and a cookie
Coffee and a cookie
