I met charlotte down in tennessee she liked my way of singin

But when it came to heartfelt i couldnt hold a flame

To the one she had before and the next one on the line

I was a steppin stone of heartache just to pass the time

Well We ran for about a year or so and tangled through the leaves

But what i had wasnt quite enough for a woman of her speed

She liked fast cars and the fast life that i just couldnt keep up with

So she left just like the others do without one regret

So i made way for all smokey bars to drown away my pain

Lookin awful odd the bar maid asks my name
