This is cool
The next song is called "Lightning", and it's actually, umm
It's a bit of a journey, this song
I started writing this track, umm
And I had it pretty much mapped out and had, had everything there
But I just hadn't finished it, I just
Had to finish a little bit of it off
And I called on a friend of mine, her name's Britt and she's in L.A
And we got into the studio and I said, "Aw"
She said, "Aw, is there anything else you want us to work on?"
And I said, "Aw, there is this song that I need to finish
Maybe you can help me finish this idea I've got"
I played her the chords and I sung her the melody
I said, "You know the first few lines are"
I said, "It's called 'Lightning' and I
Want it to finish with this, you know
Play on the phrase, like lightning doesn't strike twice"
And I said, "But I want it, I want it to be, you know
About how you hope they aren't right
And that lightning does strike twice
'Cause what you had was amazing but you
Lost it and you want to be struck again"
And so I start singing her these melodies and this
Basically some of the words that I had
And she looks at me and she's like
She had just been through a break-up and she's like
"Dude, I just wrote a song called 'Lightning'
And it's pretty much about the exact same thing"
And it was weird, both of our worlds just combined
And we pretty much had the song written like that
And it was just me originally singing the tune
But at some stage I thought
Actually it'd be pretty cool to do it as a duet
So I went in and I wrote a bridge
And I sort of changed some of the words so that it was duet-like
And I got a local Melbourne girl named Fatai
And if you don't know who Fatai is
She was on The Voice actually, the first season of The Voice
Her voice is incredible, like ridiculous
I heard her sing on YouTube and she did this
Little acoustic thing with "Chandelier"
And I think it got like 1500 million views in three days or something
That's not the official view count, I don't think
But it got a lot of views and rightly so, because it was amazing
And then I went in and watched a bunch of her other stuff
And I thought, "She will kill this song"
And so I got her, flew her down from Melbourne
And she came into my studio here in Sydney
And tracked her vocal
She was super sweet, super excited about the song
And, and, umm, yeah
I just love how the vocal turned out and
After finishing the comp
After finishing editing her vocals and stuff
I listened back to it and I couldn't
Imagine the song any other way now
She killed it, thank you Fatai, you absolutely killed it
Here it is, "Lightning"
