Nothing Changes is a song about addiction at its core. For me, that addiction was in trauma itself. Being around war and emergency situations for so long, I often feel prisoner to the rush of it all. Despite the thrill of being in life-or-death situations, I've also remained well aware of the emotional and psychological damage it has caused. So it's a song about realizing that I need to distance myself from this vicious cycle. I think this song has a generality about addiction though for the listener. It could be about a particular substance or toxic relationships as well. I think when you're addicted to anything, there are some pretty unifying commonalities that can be understood between people, even if the context is different. I think that's powerful because if we commiserate, we feel less alone. Feeling communion and relation is such a huge part of recovery and getting to a healthier place.
