In gardens, I find a kind of peace
There's order in the borders and me
A warming palm house to keep the window
And a new climate entirely
An incubation zone
Not quite home
Not quite free
But with tended-to needs
One day, on meeting the head gardener
I thanked them for their care
They stopped awhile and said to me
"To be fair, if I dare
The plant I neglect the most is me
And it helps to know you're there"
In gardens, I find a kind of peace
A simulation of nature helps me sleep
Photosynthesise in the light that leaks in from outside
A controlled experiment before release
Into the wild, real, free trees
And in caring for you
I'm caring for me too
Well, it's about time
The care I neglect so often is mine
