New Love (Track by Track)

I wrote New Love in the middle of the UK leg

Of the 2023 REWIND World Tour

I was in Birmingham, UK, in my hotel room and

I have this great film photo from that moment

That always takes me back. It was a reflection of

Where I was at in my life in the moment of writing

It was a bit different to my usual approach where

I write about things that either have already happened

Or what I wanted to happen

Being on tour at the time, I got back in touch with

The joy of writing music that was made for playing live

I got to test this song and the guitars I wanted to

Record on during sound check and

I think that is maybe akin to like busking days

Where you used to perform a song first before you recorded it

And you you knew where the song lived

Another inspiration I feel like for this song was

To use environmental metaphors to explain feelings

I think that's kind of a stylistic thing that people enjoy

In my song writing and, I definitely lent on that with this song

And this album to use the reference of

"as sure as rivers that lead to seas

I got to trust that new love will come back to me"

And that's one of my favourite things to do to look

To truth in nature and try and apply them to human emotion

And, that's how new love began

It was the first song I wrote for the album, and

It was the first song I recorded, and it turned out to be

The title and the message for the whole record
