Surprise Party

I had a surprise party for my baby

Made everyone promise not to put my baby wise

And now they're talking about the way it turned out

What a complete surprise

Some intimate friends came to greet my baby

And I was as busy as a bee around a hive

I took a look at the clock, tickety tock

My baby was about to arrive

There were flowers on the table

Something extra special on ice

I was glad that I was able

To have everything nice including chicken and rice

Had everything all set and then we waited

And I was delighted and excited as could be

But when my baby walked in with somebody else

The most surprised party was me

I thought I was the perfect host

I had the lights turned low

I had my copy of Emily Post

Right there at my elbow

I had a lot of fancy knick-knacks

Scattered about the place

Made sure to have plenty of doilies

Made of Chantilly lace

Her favorite friends were gathered

Behind the big settee

And after we'd surprised her

We were all gonna make whoopee

Yes, we planned to announce our engagement

After we'd made some fudge

But somebody double-crossed me

Someone who bore me a grudge

I had everything all set and then we waited

And I was delighted and excited as could be
