I've got a lot to say so
I'mma go straight away, yo
Aye man, I grew up in a church
Where you had to dress your best on a Sunday
Even if you was living like a wretch on a Monday
Nobody cared, but everybody was scared
If they didn't keep a pretence if anybody's there
And the pastor's wearing tailored suits
Prada shoes, Gucci boots he would flip between
Some of the church people were starving and homeless
But he was addicted to the life, call it nicotine
Fast cars, he would pull up at his private spot
And I ain't saying that's wrong, cause I am not God
I'm just saying that my spirit doesn't sit right
When there's a brother in church and he lives right
On the street with nothing to eat
And the pastor of the church is just living that rich life
I give tithes when I get time
But my brother stopped because he's debt tied
And he's struggling
There ain't a worry in the world and it's puzzling
Church is gonna be his home
Find the family he knows that can pour into his soul
Give him hope, let him overcome the hard times
To him a church like that is a past-time
As in it happened in the past time
If only they would replicate and do it now as a past-time
Remember Mandela and Apartheid
He overcame with love and that's a far cry
From what some of the churches are displaying
Don't shoot me, cuzzy, I'm just saying
I just wanna say
I recognise why you might wanna run away
God is for everybody (everybody)
It's for anybody, yeah
Welcome home, you never know
You might like this home so before you go
Try this home
I wanna say
Welcome home
And I ain't even paint the churches with the same brush
Cause the one I'm at now ain't the same cuz
They showing same love
Any creed, any colour, any race, any class
There'll be grace for your background
They wanna see you move, never turn back round
Cause the past is the past, that's that now
And I don't care what you done
I just care where you going, real talk on the track now
Religion nearly killed all of my vision
Had me thinking I could be perfect with no more sinning
Had me judging others like, "Why's he wearing that?"
"She's the criminal, why's he blaring pack?"
"Why's she swearing fam?"
And then I realised that nobody's perfect
He without sin cast the stone, yeah you've heard it
So God be started digging through the verses
Grace, not works, it is done, don't deserve it
But he paid it all, unconditional
So tell me, why the hell are they dissing you?
Acting like there's a hierarchy of sin
Well sin is sin, what hierarchy you in?
They're all the same as long as it's just a mistake
And not a lifestyle, thank his grace
So glad that I made it out religion
Relationship with God is what I'm on and now it's different
I just wanna say
I recognise why you might wanna run away
God is for everybody (everybody)
It's for anybody, yeah
Welcome home, you never know
You might like this home so before you go
Try this home
I wanna say
Welcome home
So walk into that church with your head high
No matter what you done, go and get right
If anybody talks tell em step aside
It's between me and God, say I'm just fine
And get a couple good people round you
And tell em you was lost but he found you
And you don't need anybody pointing their fingers
You're just tryna get it right and see your vision
I just wanna say
I recognise why you might wanna run away
God is for everybody (everybody)
It's for anybody, yeah
Welcome home, you never know
You might like this home so before you go
Try this home
I wanna say
Welcome home
I just wanna say
I recognise why you might wanna run away
God is for everybody (everybody)
It's for anybody, yeah
Welcome home, you never know
You might like this home so before you go
Try this home
I wanna say
Welcome home
Welcome home
Welcome home
Welcome home
Welcome home
Welcome home
Welcome home
Welcome home
Welcome home
Welcome home
Welcome home
Welcome home
Welcome home
I go into a church, it's called Hillsong
And they have a pastor there named Carl Lentz
And from the moment I walked in the church I said
"Okay, this is where they mean come as you are"
You just knew?
I walked in the spot, I pass a bar coming in, it's dark
Then I see like strobe lights, a stage and a disco ball
They turn a club into a church on Sundays
Oh word? Yeah
Wow
And that really hit me like, "Okay, so alright, this
Is very different, let me go see what this is about"
Then I started looking around in the crowd, in the audience
And I see like skater kids in the back with their
Skateboards and their skate gear in the back you know
Dudes over here look like they just came off of one four fifth
Like, "Yo, Papi, Papi, I got that thing though"
You know, it was a real eclectic group of people
And really come as you are
And really come as you are
And then the pastor walks out
He's wearing some jeans, a t-shirt and a red pair of J's
Word?
With tats all over him
Oh man, that's what I'm talking about
And he, and this is how I felt, and he started preaching the Word
So I'm looking around I'm like, "Okay, you
Know what? This might be something different"
Yeah
And I started listening to him, pastor, started listening to him speak
And it moved me differently because
Now all three components were there
I felt comfortable, I felt like he was really speaking to me
And that moved me to say, "You know what?
Now I get it, I can accept God into my life"
From what you're saying and from what I see, if I do this
You're not asking me to make gospel
Records tomorrow, you're not, you're not
It's, it's, it's a walk, you know
It's, it's, it's taking baby steps and
I get to take them steps at my own pace
You know, I'm not saying I'm perfect but I'm
Making that step and they're accepting me as I am
Right
