Where Does The Love Go? is as much a song
As it is a question, ah... Where does the love go, when it's not us?
I started ah working on this song in the summer
I have this really great memory of being in a lobby
In Amarillo, Texas with Kim Churchill
And I was trying different keys of the song and
I felt like that's where the song was really discovered
And then I played it live in Santa Fe, New Mexico
And had a call and response with the crowd
Which people who come to the shows know that
This song is very call and response live
But it didn't really fit that on the record
So, there's a great point of difference with this song
On the record versus live and, I was reflecting personally on
Where does the love go when it's not us?
I think the love does disappear if we don't embody it
And so that's the the responsibility and maybe
Some influence from my Buddhist readings, um
My little yellow Buddhist book that I take everywhere with me
Is that we have to try wherever possible and embody love and
And take it as our responsibility and then hopefully
The next person does and the next person does
One of my favourite lines from this song is is the opening
Because it's meant to be a paradox
It's talking about the problem and then
Being a part of the problem
And so just being so literal and a bit ah
Risque in lyric choice, um
It's a real challenge for me and when I'm live and
I'm singing this song I always feel a bit shy
But it's like a good challenge to push myself and
That's maybe some influence from the lyrics of
So many people not the least like Noah Kahan
Or Matt Healey in the 1975, where they're
Just pushing the boundaries a bit and
Yeah, this song is a song I always play live on tour
It's one of my favourite songs on the record and yeah
That's the story
