Wait for me, I'm coming
Wait, I'm coming with you
Wait for me, I'm coming too
In the first act it's Orpheus singing to Eurydice, "Wait for me, I'm
Coming to the Underworld to get you." And in the reprise, it's
Eurydice telling Orpheus to wait for her, to not look back, that
She'll see him in the aboveground world at the end of the
Journey. And the first time that you hear this song, Hermes is
Giving Orpheus literal instructions about how to get to Hadestown
Physical details about how to get to Hadestown. And in this
Reprise, it's more metaphorical than that. He's speaking to
Orpheus about that the real road lies between his ears and
Behind his eyes, that he has to sort of master himself and his
Mind and not give in to doubt in order to achieve the mission
Show the way the world could be
If you can do it, so can she
If she can do it, so can we
Show the way the world could be
This song has an outro that actually I wrote because I remember a
Playwright friend seeing a workshop version of Hadestown in New
York and saying, "I think what you really need is an 11 o'clock
Number, a moment of just musical throwdown before the kind of
Denouement of the show." And there never was a moment like that
And so I wrote the outro of "Wait For Me (Reprise) " of the "I'm
Coming, wait for me," that "I hear the walls repeating." And that's
The reason that that outro exists in "Wait For Me" in the first act
And it was very important because it felt final. It felt like a
Declaration, like a commitment, like something had changed in the
Song. And it became in Hadestown a very important moment for Eurydice
Where she just, it's right in the belt of her voice. She just gets
To kind of have one more chance to throw down all the love and
Passion and commitment that she's got
Before the tragic end of the story
Show the way
I'm coming, wait for me
Show the way
I hear the walls repeating
The falling of our feet and
It sounds like drumming
Show the way
And we are not alone
Show the way
Show the way
Show the way
I hear the rocks and stones
Echoing our song
I'm coming
Coming
Coming
