Baba Yaga
Once upon a time, for many years
A story had reached some villagers ears
That a spooky old witch lived nearby
A scary story that kept them up all night
She dwelt in a magic hut in the wood
On two enormous legs it stood
Huge yellow chicken legs they were
Baba Yaga, the villagers called her
The kids were not allowed to find out
If Baba Yaga was really about
Beware the Baba Yaga, grown-ups said
Into the forest no one dared tread
One day, a curious girl named Prue
Had to know if the story was true
She decided to sneak out into the wood
To find Baba Yaga, if she could
Let's go into the forest
Come with me, Prue said to her friends, Greg and Amy
Oh, we've been told not to go, they squeaked
Above them, branches scraped and creaked
Tish and tosh, it'll be fun, Prue said
So they all walked into the wood ahead
Past shadows moving among the trees
Past tiny eyes peeping out from leaves
Then they saw two giant yellow legs
Squealed Amy and Greg
They ran away and left Prue on her own
Outside Baba Yaga's hut, all alone
Prue trembled like a leaf
And screwed her eyes shut and said
"I'm not scared of a magic hut"
Crack, the yellow door opened then
Baba Yaga, had come out of her den
Baba Yaga looked pretty scary
Her nails were so long and hairy
Underneath her crooked snout
A big scraggly tooth poked out
Hello, little girl, Baba Yaga said
Poor Prue was now full of dread
Yaga laughed, Ha! I'm not that bad
There's no need to look so sad
Oh, said Prue and smiled at last
Would you like to come in? Baba Yaga asked
Prue climbed the ladder to the door
Yaga wasn't that mean, she was sure
The hut inside was sparkly and pink
Baba Yaga gave Prue a fizzy drink
They sat on velvet chairs and ate
Cherry cupcakes that tasted great
It's nice to have a visit, Yaga sighed
Every time people see me, they run and hide
That's a shame, said Prue, scoffing a cake
I think there's been a big mistake
Baba Yaga smiled and poured some tea
Well, you don't seem afraid of me
Perhaps you can let them know
That I'm not a bad witch in a black hat
For sure, said Prue, who'd had a great day
I'll take you home, I know the way
The magic hut jumped and hop, hop, hopped
Through the dark forest it pop, pop, popped
Prue arrived home with a big surprise
Nobody could believe their eyes
They all wanted to meet Baba Yaga then
And never thought she was scary again
