Aladdin
In the land of Arabia, in a time long ago
Lived a boy called Aladdin from a poor hungry home
Together, he lived with his sisters and mother
All doing their best to take care of each other
One evening, a sorcerer came up to their home
An evil old man from a place unknown
I need a young boy who is cunning and swift
And I'll pay him a fortune for one little gift
He led young Aladdin a long way away
Across the hot desert to the mouth of a cave
In there, said the sorcerer, I shall wait here
But Aladdin stood rooted, trembling with fear
The sorcerer cackled and said
Don't be afraid, for many a treasure you will find in that cave
Take all you can carry, but bring me one thing
I must have the lamp hidden somewhere within
Aladdin crept in, and the cave soon grew wide
With great stacks of treasure piled high on all sides
And right in the middle, a dirty old lamp
All dusty and musty, and smelling of damp
Aladdin stepped forwards, and reached with both hands
Gently, he lifted the lamp off its stand
It's dirty, he said, I'll give it a clean
He then gave it a rub, and out popped a genie
Aladdin, cried the genie, as the magic smoke cleared
I've been trapped in that lamp for thousands of years
And now that I'm free from that terrible curse
I'll grant you three wishes, please, name me your first
Easy, said Aladdin, as he looked around him
This cave is so dark and gloomy and dim
I've been here too long, I no longer feel brave
I wish to be out of this terrible cave
The genie clicked his fingers and whisked them away
To the spot where Aladdin first entered the cave
It's done, said the genie
Now, what do you reckon? Two wishes are left
So, name me your second
But before brave Aladdin could speak a reply
He was loudly interrupted by the sorcerer's cry
Aladdin, you made it! And with the lamp I can see
You've done very well, boy, now, give it to me
But Aladdin was wise to the sorcerer's trick
He again rubbed the lamp and shouted out quickly
Sorcerer, you've brought me nothing but woe
I wish you to turn into an old warty toad
The genie clicked his fingers and with a bang and a pop
There sat a tiny green frog in the sorcerer's spot
It's done, said the genie
But don't cheer too fast, only one wish is left
So, name me your last
Aladdin thought and he thought and he racked all his brains
What do you ask for when one wish remains?
Then he said, Genie, I should like nothing more
Than to save my family who are hungry and poor
The genie clicked his fingers for the very last time
It's done, he told Aladdin, you will all be fine
Here's a big bag of food that will always be full
And a magical fountain with water so cooly
And then with a poof, the genie was gone
Never to be heard of from that day on
Aladdin meanwhile lived a long happy life
With his mother and sisters and children and wife
Though still very poor, they had plenty to eat
Thanks to the genie and his big bag of treats
They kept the lamp always as a reminder for all
To always be thankful of what you wish for
