My grandfather had an old pocket watch
He used it to tell time
He said he bought it a long time ago
And it didn't cost a dime
He would wind it up in the morning
And put it by his bed every night
He said with this pocket watch by my side
Everything would be alright
He told me when he was a little lad
Some kids would bully him at school
They'd grab him by the collar
They weren't very cool
And they'd grab his pocket watch
And toss it in the air
He'd try to jump for it, but he couldn't reach
It wasn't very fair
So when one of the children dropped it
He lunged straight for the dirt
To save his old pocket watch
He didn't care if he got hurt
Nowadays, the time is always fast
The clock can't be set the same
But I still keep it in my drawer in my office
With the chain
And though Grandpa is no longer with us
His memory can be seen in his pocket watch
The very same one that he bought
And when I have kids one day
I know something that will make them smile
And If I said I didn't love that pocket watch
You could call me a liar
I'd pass it on to them, just like my grandpa passed it on to me
Generations, for all the world to see
Nowadays, the time is always fast
The clock can't be set the same
But I still keep it in my drawer in my office
With the chain
And though Grandpa is no longer with us
His memory can be seen in his pocket watch
The very same one that he bought
