Where Do You Get It From?

It's a mystery of human nature

When and where change starts

Is it first a jolt within our brains

Or a flicker entering our hearts

Or do we just react to outer impulses

In a manner within our range

Is that an instinct buried deep within

More or less a willingness to change

Can it be traced back in a long causal chain

Like a melody through-composed

The memory of which will remain

Or is it self-generated and unpredictable

Perhaps an answer to these questions is

Just not effectible

We all agree that it sucks

But where do you get it from?

Into permanence you come

So soothing, a steady hum

Then appears out of nowhere

An incentive to change

Well where do you get that from?
