I love this song, one of my favorite songs to perform
Um, this is actually a fraternal twin to the song before it
Uh, there, this is intentionally situated
In the introductory of the album
As we're beginning to shape the parameters of what this project is
Um, the song gets to the details of the freedom experience
Um, I paint this picture of one returning home from the Grammys
And with a semi-smile, like man, I, I had way more fun
I was way more fulfilled just spending
Time with people in my community
And impacting their lives, and helping folks
Come from a place of brokenness to healing
That right there is fun to me, um, above any award
Uh, it's this utter different way of living
It's like people who are bringing the realities
Of Heaven into their earthly experience
I know my hair is, um, legally allowed to be discriminated against
Um, you can look at somebody and say "
You can't work here if you have locks"
And, um, I just find it fascinating that, uh
What is merely just cultural expression
Is seen as threatening to some folks
Um, and I don't feel at all bound by the
Cultural milieus of, um, of my society
And uh, and that is, in some ways, a, a hill that maybe not
May not worth be dying on, um, obviously I have a particular job
That, that doesn't really come into, uh
Interference very much, having, uh, dreadlocks
Uh, but there still is a greater principle there
Um, that I know that there is a standard and understanding
That is going to come barreling at me everywhere I go
And there will be places where I will make compromises, yes
But I will never, ever, ever lose the truth of all of this
And that God has uniquely shaped and called me
And allowed me and afforded me a freedom and a sense of existence
Um, that only is fueled by His sort of blessing
And not the blessings of, um, people
Who have their own expectations for KB
