"Get Through" begins to take us to an even, um, darker place
Um, where we grapple with the sufferings of humanity
It was inspired by a conversation I had with my uncle
Um, actually, a few months ago, where he took me to the corner
In the middle of Southside St. Pete
And he told me to look around
And I looked around and I saw the under-resourced reality
I saw, uh, hopelessness, I saw brokenness
Uh, um, I was just reminded of what I
You know, grew up around, um, as a teenager
And he told me to take a good look at all of this
With some colorful language, heh
And, uh, he said, "If you don't have anything in your music that can
Speak to these people here, you are doing a disservice to your call"
And, uh, that struck me
And I went home and I wrote this, um
And, uh, was able to team up with a label mate
And able to have a very honest, you know, forthright, you know
Um, transparent dialogue around where we often find ourselves
And the most basic call of desperation
Is when you get to the end of yourself
You realize that you have been seeking
Shelter in your money, in your status
Um, you have been, um, confused and lost and desperate
And when you find yourself in that place, good
Because God helps those who cannot help themselves, you know?
Uh, this song is called "Trying to Get
Through" because that's where we get
It's like that, that place where you get to the end of yourself
I'm like, "Man, I'm just trying to get through this"
And I flip it at the end
Where I, I sh-, I show that God is actually saying that to us
That it is through this situation that He
Is actually trying to get through to us
Um, there's so much, uh, that we can get out of our pain
You know what I mean?
There's so much, um, that, that, that God uses pain to do in our lives
That there's something greater than just getting out of the situation
It's sitting and finding what is the situation getting out of us
And using that to build a future, a hope, a destiny
So, yeah, "Get Through"
